Practice Clarity

Books, Training and Practical Resources for Children's Social Care

Practice CLARITY

Practice Clarity was founded by Satnam Singh, an experienced social worker, writer and practitioner with more than 30 years’ experience in children’s social care.

We believe good practice should be clear, thoughtful and grounded in the everyday realities of working with children and families.

Through practical books, resources and training, we support social workers, foster carers and organisations to strengthen professional judgement, reflect on their practice and keep the child at the centre of every decision.

Our aim is simple: to make complex practice easier to understand and apply, without losing the depth, compassion and professional judgement that good social work requires.

Our Purpose

Supporting children and families, whether through social work or fostering, brings challenges, responsibilities and important decisions.

Good practice requires knowledge, compassion, reflection and sound judgement. It also requires practical guidance that makes sense in everyday situations.

Practice Clarity exists to make professional practice and fostering clearer, more confident and more child-centred.

Through our books, resources and training, we aim to:

  • Support social workers to strengthen their analysis, recording and professional judgement.

  • Help foster carers develop confidence, knowledge and practical skills.

  • Provide accessible tools and guidance that can be applied in everyday practice.

  • Encourage reflection, curiosity and thoughtful decision-making.

  • Promote children's safety, wellbeing, identity and sense of belonging.

  • Keep children's experiences and perspectives at the heart of everything we do.

Our aim is simple: to turn knowledge and experience into practical guidance that makes a positive difference to children, families and those who support them.

Training and Learning

Practice Clarity offers practical, interactive training designed to strengthen professional practice, build confidence and improve outcomes for children.

Our core training programme includes:

  • Writing with the Child in Mind – Helping social workers and related professionals develop clearer, more analytical and child-centred recording.

  • The First 100 Days as a Foster Carer – Supporting newly approved foster carers as they begin their fostering journey.

  • Beyond the First Year – Helping foster carers reflect on their experiences, develop their skills and build confidence.

  • Welcoming a New Child into Your Home – Exploring the experiences and needs of children when a new foster child joins the family.

Training is available face-to-face or online by agreement, with workshops tailored to the needs of individual organisations.

Our approach combines professional knowledge, practical experience and opportunities for reflection and discussion.

Supporting Social Work and Fostering Practice

Practice Clarity develops practical resources, books and training for those involved in supporting children and families.

Our work focuses on three key areas:

  • Social workers and related professionals – Strengthening recording, reflection, analysis and professional judgement.

  • Foster carers – Building confidence, developing practical skills and supporting children throughout their fostering journey.

  • Children and families – Providing accessible resources that help children understand their experiences, express their feelings and manage change.

Our resources combine professional experience, research and practical guidance, with an emphasis on making learning accessible and relevant to everyday situations.

Our focus is on helping people put good practice into action.

A Commitment to Clear Thinking

The work of social workers and foster carers can have a lasting impact on children's lives.

At Practice Clarity, we believe that good practice is built on knowledge, compassion, reflection and the confidence to make thoughtful decisions.

We are committed to providing practical, accessible resources that support those who care for children and work alongside families.

Our guiding principle is simple: clearer thinking, stronger practice and better experiences for children.
